Nuremberg
1912 – 1971
Established in 1912, Philip Ullmann became the owner in 1919. In 1933, having had his business stolen by the Nazis, he left Germany for England, where he founded Mettoy.
From 1935 to 1945, Tipp & Co. was managed by Ernst Horn; production of toy airplane, which had been significant before 1935, increased and the style became more realistic, but also more warlike, as the toy became a propaganda object in the service of the dictatorship.
Production ceased in 1943 when the factory was bombed.
After the war, Philip Ullmann reclaimed his property, which he placed under the management of his son, reserving Mettoy for himself. Faced with the growing success of his German company, he sold Mettoy and returned to Nuremberg. Tipp & Co. ceased trading in 1971.
